Moving the Blog to a new Domain

August 15th, 2009

Dear Readers,

I have decided to create a new domain for my Blog. With that also the name will change. The Name “Modelling Universe” was always meant to be a temporary name since I didn’t really have any idea for a name. That has changed now, the new Name will be: Read the rest of this entry »

First steps on the T-80 B

August 12th, 2009

Like I promised, here are the first of the construction images of the T-80 B. I started with the assembly and mock up of the turret and turret details. As you can see already, the fit of the parts is not the best. This continues around the front (gun) and rear as well. There is going to be quite a lot of filling sanding involved in this model.

P-51B Mustang

August 12th, 2009

Together with the Focke Wulf I found this P-51B Mustang, also in 1:72 scale by Revell. Like the FW 190 this kit was completly sealed in box and didn’t cost much. Having had a look at the parts it seems to me that the forms weren’t as much used when this kit was produced as the Focke Wulf, since I didn’t spot as much flush like on the FW kit.

T-80 B Soviet Main Battle Tank in 1:72

August 10th, 2009

OK, here it is … I bought a tank kit during the car boot sales. I just couldn’t pass by a kit for 0,50€ … could you? The Kit is sold by Matchbox in 1:72 scale. The actual manufacturer of this kit is Revell.

Focke Wulf Fw 19 A-8 /R-11

August 8th, 2009

It’s been a while since I have bought this Revell Kit of a 1/72 scale Focke Wulf Fw 190. It also has been a while that I built one … it was in my early teens.

This kit I bought again during one of our frequent visits to local car boot sales and, like usually, I didn’t pay much for it. Everything is completely packed and the parts are still sealed. The kit can be built to either represent a A-8 stationed in bad Aibling (south Germany) in 1945 or a A-8/R-11 stationed in Werneuchen (east Germany, around Berlin) in 1944. A profile of the 1944 A-8/R-11 from Werneuchen can be found here.

masking … a different approach.

August 4th, 2009

Sometimes you need to mask of areas differently if you don’t manage by “just” applying strips of masking tape around the area you want to have masked. Here is a different approach, you apply the stripes all over the area and then use a scalpel (a sharp one so be careful!) to cut out the area you want to paint. Here the area are the 2 rear air scoops in the rear area of the Porsche.

Porsche 936-78 Turbo – first details painted

August 4th, 2009

After the masking and first painting session last weekend this is how the Porsche body currently looks (please not the spoiler is not glued in position yet).

Body with first details - left side

You can see that I didn’t mask too well, since at the body panel lines there are some red markings where they do not belong … I will be able though to remove them by lightly scraping over them with a scalpel. And the body will get some white colour as well. For that I will mask off the read and other painted areas.

Masking and Spraying

August 2nd, 2009

Last week I went to town wif Claudia, my wife. Actually I don’t like at all going to town, but as a “reward” I got myself some new propellant for the old airbrush. OK … I didn’t have the other 2 guns yet so I thought let’s go for it with the old one. I masked the right side of the Porsche 936-78 to give the air duct a bit of the old red colour that the LeMans Car of ‘78 (Jacky Ickx , Henri Pescarolo, Jochen Mass) had. Additionally the rear wing gets some of that red as well.

YAK-9D Soviet Fighter by Modelist in 1:72 scale

August 1st, 2009

This 1:72 scale model of a YAK-9D by the Russian producer Modelist is another one of today’s arrivals. It comes complete with the required paints and a paintbrush to finish the model. Overall is seems like a nice kit but the plastic parts do have some flash around the edges. It’s been some time that I built a model-aircraft …

MBB BK 117 “Space Ship” – Revell 1:72

August 1st, 2009

One of today’s new arrivals is this Revell 1:72 scale model of the MBB BK 117 Helicopter dubbed “Space Ship” due to it’s striking colour scheme. As you can see the box is a bit “battered”, but I got it including a tube of glue for merely a single €.
